Peter Kay announces huge comeback tour after 5-year absence for family reasons

Peter Kay has announced a huge comeback tour, five years after he took a step back from the limelight.

The 49-year-old comedian will be embarking on a UK-wide arena tour next month, as he takes his brand new stage show to a number of top venues. It will be the first time in 12 years that Peter has been on tour.

The new show was announced during the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! ad break, with a hilarious clip of Peter carrying a roll of carpet and shouting to a man in a car.

Tickets go on sale on Saturday, with the show kicking off in Manchester and then travelling to Birmingham, Liverpool, Belfast, Newcastle, Dublin, Glasgow, Cardiff and Nottingham.

"It’s good to get back to what I love doing best, stand-up comedy and if there’s ever a time people need a laugh it’s now.

"And with the cost of living at an all-time high, ticket prices are starting from £35. The same price they were on my previous tour in 2010," Peter said in a statement on the Manchester AO website.

Fans went wild following the announcement and took to Twitter to share their excitement.

One person wrote: "I can’t wait I really have to get tickets for this I love the man," with another adding: "Sod Glastonbury, I want Peter Kay tickets!"

"F**k me Peter Kay coming back has made my whole year! The GOAT," tweeted a third fan.

Peter was due to embark on a series of nationwide shows back in 2017 before cancelling due to unforeseen family circumstances.

When cancelling the 100-date sell-out tour, he released a statement which read: "Due to unforeseen family circumstances I deeply regret I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects.

"My sincerest apologies."

He added: "This decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand my family must always come first."

Peter has stayed largely out of the spotlight ever since, although he has slowly started making a return to public life.

The Phoenix Nights star has made some surprise performances at small shows and charity events, recently delighting fans at the Dance For Life show for Cancer Research in Liverpool in August.

The charity dance-a-thon headed to the M&S Bank Arena, with Peter having entertained fans at the venue.

Following the show, many attendees took to social media to share their excitement at seeing the comedian live.

"Just had the best night of my life at [the show]. I can't even describe [it]. Three hours of non-stop dancing. Peter you have gone too long. Welcome back you legend," one person tweeted.

Another wrote: "Danced the night away with [Peter] and had a fantastic night." A third added: "Thank you for an amazing evening in Liverpool tonight. Best school disco ever".
