Peter Cullen, who voiced Optimus Prime in Transformers, dies aged 85

  • Prolific voice actor Peter Cullen, renowned for voicing Optimus Prime in Transformers and Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh , has died at the age of 85.
  • Cullen passed away on Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles , according to his agent Kevin Motley.
  • He famously based his commanding performance as Autobot leader Optimus Prime on his older brother, a US Marine who served in the Vietnam War.
  • His portrayal of Optimus Prime spanned nearly four decades, from the 1984 animated series to seven live-action films concluding with 2023's Rise of the Beasts.
  • Across a wide-ranging career, Cullen also lent his voice to iconic projects including The Smurfs, G.I. Joe, Knight Rider, and the 1976 King Kong remake.
