Pete Davidson to fly on Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin spaceflight

Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson will be blasted off into space in a Blue Origin rocket.

The American stand-up comedian, 28, will be part of the crew flying on Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ fourth manned space flight later this month.

He will be joined on the New Shepard’s NS-20 flight by Marty Allen, Sharon and Marc Hagle, Jim Kitchen and Dr George Nield.

Each person will take a postcard with them to space on behalf of Blue Origin’s foundation, Club for the Future, it said in a statement.

The Postcards to Space programme gives students access to space on Blue Origin’s rockets.

This mission, taking place on March 23, is the 20th in the New Shepard’s history.

During the 11-minute journey, astronauts soar past the Kármán Line, which is 62-miles in the air and the internationally recognised boundary of space.

They will experience several minutes of weightlessness during the journey.

In July last year, Blue Origin completed New Shepard’s first human flight with four people onboard.

The crew was made up of Jeff Bezos, Mark Bezos, Wally Funk and Oliver Daemen.

Upon completing the flight, Funk, 82, became the oldest person to fly in space while Daemen, at 18, became the youngest.

Three months later, Blue Origin completed a second manned flight, this time with Star Trek legend William Shatner on board.

At 90 years old, he overtook Funk as the oldest person to fly in space.

Its most recent manned flight, in December last year, carried six people including Laura Shepard Churchley, the daughter of Alan Shepard who was the first American to fly in space.

It also had Good Morning America host Michael Strahan on board.

Blue Origin is the commercial spaceflight company founded by former Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos.

The space mission will take off from Blue Origin’s Launch Site One in West Texas.
