This one is certainly a head scratcher. Earlier this week, Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus (PFF) released his ranking of current NFL head coaches. Curiously, there was a glaring omission – Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll apparently did not make Sikkema’s cut.
Obviously coaches like Andy Reid, Bill Belichick, and Mike Tomlin made the list – no argument there. But looking at the rest of the list is more than enough to make any 12th Man, Woman or Child go “huh!?”

As stated, there is certainly no argument against Reid, Belichick, and Tomlin being on the list. It should be noted those men are the only active coaches in the NFL with more wins than Carroll, and Tomlin only has him beat by two.
Additionally, Carroll has the same number of Lombardi trophies as Tomlin, John Harbaugh, Sean McVay and Doug Pedersen.
Carroll also has historically owned Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers outright. Even with San Francisco pulling off a never-before-seen three-game sweep of the Seahawks this past year, Shanahan is still only 5-8 against Carroll all time.
Brian Daboll got the New York Giants competitive again in only his first year, and Nick Sirianni helped guide Philadelphia back to the Super Bowl, but those two have a grand total of three years combined experience as head coach – and Daboll’s Giants were smoked 27-13 by Carroll’s Seahawks last season!
Reasonable minds can argue where Carroll should be ranked on this list, but to not have him at all is rather disrespectful.
