Person dies after incident on track at east London Tube station

Emergency services responded to the incident at Wanstead Tube station - (Emma Hardiman)

A person died on the tracks at an east London tube station on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to Wanstead station at around 11.45am following reports of a casualty on the track.

A number of emergency response vehicles were on site, including several ambulances, four police cars, two fire engines and an air ambulance.

British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed that a person was pronounced dead at the scene, and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Wanstead station was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, resulting in no service between Leytonstone and Newbury Park eastbound on the Central line.
