Pep Guardiola gives update on injured key star ahead of Man City vs Arsenal title showdown

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted he is still unsure when Phil Foden will return to action ahead of his side's huge title showdown with Arsenal in less than two weeks.

Foden has missed City and England's last four matches in all competitions after undergoing surgery in London on his appendix during the most recent international break, which saw him withdraw from the squad early. The 22-year-old had began rediscovering his best form prior to going under the knife, scoring four goals and registering two assists across six matches in all competitions.

Due to the fine form of the likes of Jack Grealish, Erling Haaland and co, City have not felt Foden's absence too hard, but with Guardiola's men still fighting on three fronts, his return would represent a huge boost. City are currently six points adrift of Arsenal in the Premier League with the two sides set to lock horns on April 26 at the Etihad Stadium, in what many have billed as a potential title decider.

They also look set to progress to the last four of the Champions League after defeating Bayern Munich 3-0 in the quarter-finals first leg on Tuesday, and an FA Cup semi-final with Sheffield United is on the horizon too. Speaking in his pre-Leicester City press conference on Friday, though, Guardiola revealed Foden is feeling 'better', but still doesn't know when he will be ready to play again.

Via City Xtra, he said: “(He is) At home. I don’t know. I think he will be back to the training centre to be with the doctors. I think he feels better. I spoke with the doctor three days ago and he feels better. But still he’s not ready.

“I don’t know (when we will have him available). We he starts to train you will know it, from our social media, I think so. After that he will be closer to coming back, but still he cannot train with us.”
