People who contract Covid Omicron variant can be infected with same strain again

Scientists have said people who contract the Omicron variant could be infected with the same strain of coronavirus again, it has been revealed. The news comes after a major academic study at the Imperial College London.

In previous research, it was discovered people had some level of immunity against contracting coronavirus again if they had been infected with the original Covid virus or one of its earliest variants. According to this latest study, that appears not to be the the case with the Omicron variant.

The findings come after it was revealed yesterday that the latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) up to June 2 suggests that England and Northern Ireland are beginning to see a rise in cases, with obfuscated trends for Wales and Scotland. Infection levels are estimated to have risen in London, North West England and South East England - with early signs of an increase to follow in eastern England.
