People's mind's blown after learning real purpose of plastic pull tab on olive oil lids

Cooking with olive oil can be a bit of a challenge, especially when you're trying to get just the right amount for your recipe.

Often, it seems to pour out uncontrollably, leaving you with a dish that's far too oily.

However, there's a little-known trick that can help you pour the perfect amount every time. And the best part is that it's already built into the packaging.

The ring pull on the bottle of oil actually serves a purpose beyond just opening the container.

By turning it upside down and pushing it back into the spout, you can create enough space for the oil to pour out more slowly and accurately, Mirror UK reports.

This simple hack has been making waves on TikTok, with users amazed that they've been overpouring for so long without realizing there was an easy solution.

Cooking Cards, who posts on TikTok under the same name, showed people how to utilise the ring pull, rather than just throwing it in the bin. The video has since racked up over 6,000 views.

He said: "Ah, don't you hate it when you're pouring oil and it makes a mess everywhere?

"Well, I do, and trust me, try this hack and you will thank me later."

He then proceeds to remove the pull ring as normal and turn it upside down, pushing it back into where the oil pours from.

This means there's enough space around the sides of the plastic tab so the oil can still pour out, but you'll be able to avoid pouring out half of the bottle.

In the comments, people were wondering how they hadn't realised the hack sooner.

One person wrote: "Can't believe I did not know this", followed by some exasperated emojis.

Another commented: "Brilliant! I'll be using this!"

"I've lived my whole life not knowing this", someone else fumed.

"This is genius", another TikToker praised.
