A Scots pensioner who died in a horror crash with an HGV lorry has been named.
Jane Bannochie, 77, was driving her silver Vauxhall Astra on Thursday night when she was involved in a collision with a blue Volvo HGV on the A9 between Tain and the Dornoch roundabout.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at roughly 8.20pm, but Jane was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver of the HGV was uninjured.
Authorities closed off the road for around nine hours while an investigation was carried out.
Paying tribute on social media, family and friends described Jane as a 'beautiful' and 'lovely' lady.
Martin Mackenzie wrote: "How sad to read of our family friend for the last 30 years. Jean you will be sadly missed, rip."
Abigail Nicole Everett added: "RIP Jean we will miss our morning and evening talks when we arrive home and seeing your beautiful face from the bedroom window. You'rr such a lovely person inside and out you never showed your age you just carried on. Glad we got to know you and loved you as our neighbour."
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or was on the A9 at the time to get in touch.
Road Policing Sergeant Neil MacDonald said: “Our thoughts are with Jane’s family and friends at this very difficult time.
“We continue to appeal for anyone who was on the A9 around that time and who witnessed the crash or either vehicle on the road beforehand to get in touch.
“I would also ask drivers with relevant dash-cam footage of the area at the time to contact us.”
