Pennsylvania County Parents Sick with Worry as Tests Reveal High Asbestos Levels in Their Water

A small Pennsylvania county is dealing with toxins in their water supply, and parents in area are growing concerned that months have gone by without an update.

Residents in Brockway County, Pennsylvania, received letters in July telling them their water contained high levels of asbestos. They're still waiting to hear what the local water authority will do to resolve the ongoing issue.

Since July, community members have continued paying their water bills while spending extra money on bottled water. According to WTAJ, families who could afford it are also spending thousands on whole-house filtration systems.

Angel Johnson, who lives in Brockway, said the issue has put a strain on her family's finances.

"Why are we dealing with this? What's going to happen? Because I have a one-year-old and I am pregnant and I know that's not good for either of us, and it's not good for anyone in general," Johnson said to the news outlet.

Despite calls from community members, the city has yet to offer a solution. The local school district is working independently to keep its staff and students safe.

"As a district, the board decided that we need to see what was available and what we could do," Brockway School District Superintendent Brian Mulhollan said.

Mulhollan told WTAJ the schools are installing filters at every point where water is utilized, including water fountains and cafeteria kitchens.
