Paul Shefflin, brother of the most decorated hurler of all time Henry, has died at the age of 40.
Paul Shefflin died suddenly on Friday afternoon while out running.
Ballyhale Shamrocks GAA, of whom Paul Shefflin was a member, tweeted out a statement on his passing on Saturday morning.
The statement reads, "Shamrocks GAA Club are shocked and saddened by the sudden death of club member and former player Paul Shefflin."
"Paul was an unbelievable player and won many County championships and Club All Irelands wearing the Jersey he loved."
Mr Shefflin represented Ballyhale for almost two decades and enjoyed a stellar career. Over the course of his time playing for Ballyhale, he won three All Ireland Club championships and four Leinster Club Championships.
The husband and father of four also famously captained the Kilkenny minor side in 1998. Mr Shefflin has also been quoted in the past saying that the favourite moment of his career was winning the All Ireland Club Championship with Ballyhale in 2010.
The defender retired from club hurling in 2015, but remained involved in the club by being senior club treasurer, while also helping out with underage sides.
Ballyhale have postponed their AGM, which was due to take place this evening, as a mark of respect.
Henry Shefflin's Galway face Cork at Páirc Uí Chaoimh later on this evening. The game will go ahead, but Shefflin is not expected to attend. A minutes silence will be held in Paul Shefflin's honour before GAA games this weekend.
