Paul Scholes makes Man United revelation after Jesse Lingard chat following Arsenal clash

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes says that the United dressing room is a "disaster" following his chat with Jesse Lingard after the side’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal on Saturday. The victory puts the Gunners in a good position to finish in the top four this season, while the Red Devils saw their hopes take yet another dent.

Goals from Nuno Tavares and Bukayo Saka saw the home side race into a two-goal lead just before Cristiano Ronaldo pulled one back for the visitors. The second half gave them a chance to draw level through a penalty, but Bruno Fernandes struck the post.

Granit Xhaka ’s long-range effort then sealed the victory at the Emirates Stadium, temporarily moving the side up to fourth, with London rivals Tottenham playing later. It led to Mikel Arteta stating: "I think it was a phenomenal game for fans, for us it was a bit of a rollercoaster.

"We wanted to start the game really fast, dominate it, create issues, be really vertical and we managed to do that. We dominated big periods in the first half, we dominated, we scored two goals but that momentum when they scored left us a bit cold and we got a bit insecure to how we react, so we had a little five, 10 minute period there where we weren’t sure what to do.

"The start of the second half we didn't start good again. We had some problems to occupy certain spaces that they are really good at and they have so much quality to exploit that. Then when they missed the penalty and we changed the shape, and then we scored the goal, that’s when I think the game got where we wanted again."

After a dip in form following the international break, things appear to be back on track for Arsenal. As for United, they sit six points behind the Gunners and have played one game more.

It led to claims that the dressing room atmosphere is not at its best for the club. Speaking on DAZN Canada, former midfielder Scholes said: "I had a quick chat with Jesse [Lingard] there. I’m sure he won’t mind me saying, the dressing room is just a disaster."

It doesn’t make for ideal reading for those of a United persuasion, given their still slim hopes of making a top four charge. While in the long-term, new boss Erik ten Hag will be tasked with turning that around.
