Paul Robinson does not think Leeds United fans should be concerned over the ownership situations at Manchester United and Liverpool amid the San Francisco 49ers’ potential full takeover of the club. The two aforementioned Premier League giants have been put up for sale by their respective owners, both of whom are American.
Man United are currently owned by the Glazers, while FSG are in charge of Liverpool, but both have come in for criticism from supporters of each club. But the 49ers look set to become majority shareholders of Leeds in the next 18 months, possibly even earlier.
They currently hold 44% of shares in Leeds after agreeing to increase their stake 13 months ago. A deal is in place to seal a full takeover of the club in 2024 but reports earlier this year indicated that could come even earlier.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson does not think anything should be ‘read into’ American owners at Liverpool and Manchester United looking to sell, saying it will have no bearing on the 49ers at Leeds.
He said: “There’s been a lot of American investment and there’s also been a couple wanting to sell. I don’t think there’s anything to read into it whatsoever, in all honesty.
“If you’re talking about the amount of American money coming into the Premier League and just because two sets of Americans want to sell, who’s to say that two sets of Americans aren’t going to want to buy?”
