Paul O’Grady to make posthumous appearance in Eurovision short film

Paul O'Grady will make a posthumous appearance in a short film set to appear at the Eurovision Song Contest. The film will feature a host of stars and mark the opening of the competition.

The late comedian and TV host was originally from Birkenhead, in Merseyside, close to Liverpool where this year's contest is being held. He took part in the short film to show his pride in his home region.

The project is one of the last things O'Grady filmed before his death on March 28. He was 67 years old when he died. His appearance has been approved by his family and friends.

The film is titled Welcome to Liverpool. In the short film, O'Grady is seen preparing his home for Eurovision by vacuuming his home while holding his famous dogs.

Other stars to make an appearance in the film include Wirral-born TV baker Paul Hollywood, actor Ricky Tomlinson, Strictly Come Dancing star Nikita Kuzmin and Drag Race UK contestant Sister Sister among others. It will be aired at the opening of the first Eurovision semi-final at 8pm on BBC One tomorrow (March 8).

It begins with a moment a Liverpudlian boy discovers that his home city is set to host the 2023 contest. He travels across the city telling his family, friends, and neighbours that the world-famous competition is arriving.

The film can now be watched in full online.
