Arsenal legend Paul Merson was stunned by Jorginho’s impact in the 2-0 win over Newcastle United.

Drafted in against former club Chelsea last Tuesday, the Italian kept his place for the daunting trip to St James’ Park. Most expected Thomas Partey to return to the engine room but Mikel Arteta opted for the composure of Jorginho in midfield.

The move paid dividends, with the 31-year-old displaying arguably his best performance since joining Arsenal in January. Jorginho won the midfield battle against Bruno Guimaraes - a feat few have managed in the Premier League this season.
