Paul Merson highlights the two Liverpool stars who can 'wreak havoc' on Chelsea at Wembley

Chelsea play Liverpool on Sunday afternoon in the Carabao Cup final in what looks set to be a mouthwatering contest between two of England's biggest football clubs.

The Blues go into Sunday's clash with significant confidence, following the club's 2-0 victory in the Champions League round of 16, first leg tie against Lille in midweek.

Both Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic added their names on the scoresheet, ensuring that the west Londoners now have a healthy lead going into the return fixture next month.

Meanwhile, their opponents Liverpool have been in scintillating form and are currently on a nine-game winning streak.

Jurgen Klopp's side's latest victory came against Leeds at Anfield in a devastating 6-0 drubbing, with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Joel Matip and Virgil Van Dijk all managing to add to their goal tallies.

From Thomas Tuchel's perspective, the German will certainly be wary of the threat of Liverpool's front three, particularly Salah, who is yet again having an incredible season in front of goal, scoring 27 in all competitions for the Reds so far.

Paul Merson, however, believes that full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson can be the difference if Chelsea are pegged deep inside their own box for prolonged periods.

"When it comes to the threat posed by Liverpool’s full-backs, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson can wreak havoc with the quality of their deliveries," Merson wrote.

"If Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso get pinned back, the Liverpool pair will bend crosses into the box for their front three to feed on."

The two possess a plethora of quality in wide areas, with Robertson operating at his best when high and wide, whilst Alexander-Arnold is known for delivering world-class service from deeper areas within the right half-space.

Similarly, both Reece James and Ben Chilwell were offering a similar impact down the flanks for Chelsea earlier in the season and with Tuchel confirming that the former has participated in the latest training session, perhaps the 22-year-old could yet be given an opportunity to feature at Wembley.
