Paul Merson gives Sean Dyche to Everton verdict as Marcelo Bielsa 'relegation' point made

Paul Merson has tipped Sean Dyche to get Everton back to where they want to be when he takes over as manager.

The former Burnley boss was seen arriving at Finch Farm this afternoon as the managerial hunt edges closer to being completed. Frank Lampard was sacked as Blues manager on Monday after their defeat to West Ham proved to be the final straw after just shy of a year in charge.

Ex-Leeds tactician Marcelo Bielsa was a name heavily linked with the vacant post at Goodison Park and even met with club chiefs for talks.

ROYAL BLUE COLUMN: Everton and Moshiri must begin immediate rebuild as pragmatic decisions offer hope

But Merson claims that appointing the Argentine would've been a mistake and predicted that the Blues' Premier League fate would be sealed by the end of the month.

"Not then they wouldn't, I think they will [have Dyche as manager] now. When you look at him now, the job he's got to do to keep them up, they're in a relegation battle, they play a certain way," he told Sky Sports.

"It don't take Einstein to play in it, if Bielsa would've come in they'd have been all over the place, I think they would've been relegated by the end of the month. With this man, they'll be hard to beat, he'll set them up to be hard to beat, he's thick-skinned, won't worry about what the fans will do, he'll improve them and he'll make it very easy for the players.

"Work hard, get into shape and make sure you give 100 per cent, that's what the Everton fans want. All they want, them Everton fans, is to say 'right, if I was playing I'd give my all'. They haven't got the skill like the other players have. Well, the fans were chasing him down the road, if they were giving their all and they're the judges, I only see them chasing the cars for them who aren't giving their all.

"They're clever fans, they're not silly, they've been around a long time, turn up week in, week out, they see it with their own eyes and that's all they ask and they aren't chasing cars down the road if they're giving everything."
