The New England Patriots traded for cornerback J. C. Jackson on Wednesday morning. The deal may have worked out for New England financially as well, as the Chargers are paying the majority of Jackson’s $12 million guaranteed salary.
The move was needed for the Patriots with rookie Christian Gonzalez likely out for the season with a torn labrum. New England needs corner depth, and Jackson will at least be able to fill the void left by Gonzalez’s injury.
Buy Patriots TicketsJackson played for New England from 2018-2021 and had a successful career with the Patriots. He made the Pro Bowl in 2021 and was part of the Super Bowl-winning team in 2019.
The #Chargers are paying the majority of J.C. Jackson’s $12 million guaranteed salary to facilitate the deal, I’m told. They move on from a player who didn’t fit and the #Patriots get immediate help with rookie Christian Gonzalez likely out for the season per @RapSheet. https://t.co/YwPwU45MxY

The Chargers’ move to pay Jackson’s salary should help New England, as it looks to make the most out of a battered secondary.
