It seems hard to remember a time when New England Patriots fans regarded quarterback Mac Jones as the next big thing.
Just three short years ago, in fact, Jones was a Pro Bowler and the runner-up for the AP’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award. He steered the Patriots to a 10–7 record and a playoff appearance. The future looked bright.
However, Jones regressed severely in 2022 and ’23, and New England officially traded him to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday.
As is customary, the Patriots thanked Jones with a social media post. And as is customary for posts thanking non-stars, fans promptly ripped it to shreds.
Thank you, Mac. pic.twitter.com/xuw4qWkdLR

New England was roasted in light of the fact that it is believed to be pursuing a quarterback in this coming draft.
“thank you for no longer being on our team” https://t.co/21UbqIqxRA

Sarcasm abounded at the post’s pithiness.
What an emotional tribute. Admin must have teared up putting this one together. https://t.co/cxVYzQa1tO

Jones was endowed with the infamous “(franchise) legend” label.

However, many expressed empathy for Jones and blamed the Patriots for his departure.

With the immediate future bleak for New England, a few chose to remember the good times of 2021.
