Matthew Judon’s uncertain contract situation with the New England Patriots is one of the most talked about stories ahead of training camp.
Now, there is some clarity as to where the negotiations stand between the four-time Pro Bowl linebacker and the Patriots. ESPN’s Mike Reiss provided an update on the situation on Monday, during an appearance on “Toucher and Hardy.”
“My understanding is like, the sides are talking, so it’s not like a situation where like the team is saying, ‘No, this is what it is. You either show up or else,'” said Reiss. “I’m told they discussed different scenarios as to how to resolve it. Obviously, they haven’t resolved it yet. Usually in my experience, when sides are talking, that usually means there’s a better chance that you can get a resolution.”
Judon has been one of the key defensive players for the Patriots’ organization since he arrived in 2021. He has recorded 32 sacks in three seasons with the team.
However, he’s coming into the season on an expiring contract, and he wants a new deal. The good news is there’s still hope that both sides can eventually make progress in that regard.
