The Chicago Bulls are firmly in the middle, which is arguably the worst place to be in the NBA. Their core of Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic is solid, but it’s not a championship-caliber group. And if that’s the case, one would assume a rebuild could be in the cards. But not for the Bulls.
Arturas Karnisovas has made his thoughts clear – he doesn’t want to rebuild. And while recent rumblings indicate Chicago has at least considered the idea of a LaVine trade, it seems as though they are going to take the route of adding to the current core and pushing for the playoffs next year.
From the outside looking in, this may seem foolish, but the team seems confident. Chicago guard Patrick Beverley made his thoughts clear on Twitter, noting that the team should run it back next year.
“Team is solid. #RunItBack,” Beverley tweeted.
This tweet could be interpreted in a number of different ways.
At the bare minimum, Beverley is stating his confidence in the Bulls. Maybe this is just his way of supporting the team he battled for throughout the second half of this past season.
But perhaps more interesting is the idea that this could be foreshadowing for free agency.
Beverley will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, meaning he’s free to sign with any team he wants. Chicago is very thin at the point guard position and could use his services. Does this mean Beverley wants to stay in Chicago?
Only time will tell in regard to that last question, but at the very least, Beverley believes in this iteration of the Bulls.
