NEW DELHI: Delhi continued receiving patchy rains on Friday with the weather department expecting the intensity to fall further from Saturday.
According to the Met department, base station Safdarjung recorded 2.4mm of rainfall till 5.30pm on Friday, while Ayanagar received the highest rainfall at 29.5mm. According to weather analysts, the monsoon trough is now moving towards the Himalayan foothills due to which the intensity of rain in Delhi will drop.
On Friday, Pitampura recorded 15.5 mm rain, Ridge area 14.2mm, sports complex near Akshardham 12mm, Palam 5.2mm, Lodhi Road 4.8mm, Pusa 1mm, and Jafarpur 0.5mm.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature at Safdarjung was 32.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season’s average, as against 31.2 a day earlier. The minimum temperature was 25.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season’s average, compared with Thursday’s 26.7. The humidity at Safdarjung oscillated between 95% and 74%.
The maximum and minimum temperatures on Saturday are likely to hover around 33 and 25 degrees Celsius.
“The monsoon trough has started to move north, from Delhi towards Himalaya foothills, so the rain will subsequently reduce from Saturday. The maximum temperature will also rise, but there will be no significant rise in the temperature. Another spell of rain is possible around August 3 or 4,” said R K Jenamani, IMD senior scientist.
The air quality remained within the satisfactory level, with the air quality index (AQI) at 71 on Friday as against 68 a day earlier. “For the next three days, AQI is likely to be ‘good’ or ‘satisfactory’,” stated SAFAR.
