Passport office moves to Thillai Nagar complex

TRICHY: Three years after civil works began, Trichy corporation has managed to commission the commercial complex at Thillai Nagar seventh cross built under the smart cities programme.

The regional passport office will be accommodated on two floors of the three-floor complex, which is expected to generate about Rs 15 lakh as revenue for the local body every month.

Passport officer R Anand told TOI that relocation from Marakkadai water tank on West Boulevard road has started. “Full-fledged operations in Thillai Nagar will commence from April 29.

Even before that, the relocated office will cater to the emergency support of passport holders,” he said. Around 50-60 applicants visit the regional office every day.

The Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) on Sasthri road will continue to operate at the same venue without any change, Anand added. The passport office will occupy the entire second floor and a part of the third floor.

“Woraiyur sub-registrar office and several retail showrooms are in talks with us to rent the ground floor space,” a corporation official added.
