It is always a challenge to find the right jacket for this wintery weather in the UK, but having tried other products from the brand before, I knew if anyone could deliver a great water-resistant jacket, then it would be the adventure and sustainability brand Passenger.
My first impressions of the Passenger Alaska Recycled 2.0 Parka were that it was a stylish and super comfortable coat. I have tried many waterproof jackets before, but because I often feel cold, these shell garments don't provide enough insulation in nippy weather.
I was super happy with the Passenger Awaken Recycled Sherpa Full Zip Fleece, so I had very high hopes for the Alaska Recycled 2.0 Parka. Out of the two colourways, I chose to test the khaki parka, as I loved the colour with the contrasting orange lining and the pink Velcro detail on the cuffs.
After a month of testing, I couldn't be happier with the coat. It's not the ultimate winter coat, but it comes really close and provides more than enough insulation and protection against the wind and rain to make it suitable for wintery strolls.
Passenger Alaska Recycled 2.0 Parka review
Price and availability
The Alaska Recycled 2.0 Parka is available to buy now at Passenger UK, Passenger US and Passenger AU for the price of £159.95/ $199.95/ AU$ 309.95. The brand offers worldwide shipping from its base in the UK.
The colour options for women are khaki or black, with sizing ranging from an extra small to an XXL, making it available to everyone. This jacket is also available for men in a few more colourways.
I particularly liked the Baltic Recycled 2.0 Jacket for something a little different. I always appreciate when a brand offers different colours and patterns for men.
Design and construction
Passenger clothing offers a slightly larger fit, prioritizing comfort and wearability for adventurous souls. Their website suggests sizing down for a more tailored look. Opting for a small, despite usually wearing a medium, I found the fit perfect for my 5'10" frame, providing warmth and coverage.
The jacket, crafted from 100% recycled polyester and quilted inside, kept me dry in light showers, though it's worth noting it's water-resistant, not waterproof. Reproofing after washing prolongs its life, in line with Passenger's eco-friendly ethos.
The Parka features ample storage with two large front pockets and double entry pockets, albeit positioned slightly low for my liking. However, the YKK zips ensure smooth operation, with the two-way zipper facilitating mobility during activities.
The adjustable hood cord and elasticated cuffs enhance protection from the elements, making it a dependable choice for unpredictable weather. Plus, its roomy design allows for layering without feeling bulky, earning it high praise from me.
Performance and comfort
Since receiving the Alaska Recycled 2.0 Parka, it's become my daily essential, replacing a beloved but worn-out coat. During my first outing along the coast, spanning five miles, this parka exceeded all expectations, offering unmatched comfort and wearability. Its lightweight quilted lining kept me warm without feeling bulky, while also keeping me dry in the rain.
Although I found the hood could use a bit more coverage, the adjustable cord provided some protection against the elements. Versatile and stylish, it's perfect for everyday activities like running errands, walking the dog, or simply enjoying being outside.
Verdict
This Parka is undoubtedly a versatile garment, suited not only for adventurers but also for anyone residing in a region with unpredictable weather, which explains its enduring popularity. I appreciate the thoughtful details like the elasticated sleeves, pink Velcro, and quilted interior.
Although I would prefer the pockets to be positioned slightly higher and the hood a bit larger to achieve perfection, it's remarkably close. Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend it to environmentally-conscious outdoor enthusiasts seeking durability, style, and functionality.
