Indie title Pass the Fear is now out, and the full version offers some unique hunters for you to enjoy compared to the demo. We have many more options, and most of them will remain locked at first. Once you clear the early game stages, you will gain access to more hunter options to start your run.
In this guide, I will go through which hunters are strong in the meta and which ones are rather avoidable.

Complete Pass the Fear Hunter tier list
To separate all the available hunters in the full version, I have used three different tiers:
- S-tier choices are mostly the best options to enjoy.
- A-tier choices are close to the S-tier names, but they are slightly weaker in terms of general attack power.
- B-tier choices can do well in experienced hands, but you will need to spend a lot of time and energy to master them.
S-tier
- Long Tong: Long Tong’s biggest strength is the simple fact that you don’t fight alone. She will always have her dragon companion by her side during every fight. Her core talent, Amber, allows her dragon companion to breathe dragon breath at enemies, which deals 80% of your main weapon elemental damage, and it also applies dragon flame to do damage over time. Her ultimate, Fury, makes Amber enter a rage mode, which increases her Final Damage and Attack Speed by 100% for 10 seconds.
- Jenny: I love Jenny for two big reasons: you will get a new weapon part randomly for every 7 that you dismantle. Over the course of a long run, it’s pretty obvious that you will be dismantling many weapon parts. Getting something new in return can always turn out to be useful. Her ultimate is probably the strongest one in the entire game. Jenny throws a wildcat bomb within 1,000 range, and it deals 1,000% current weapon damage to every enemy stuck within the radius. This attack is not just powerful, but its AOE and ability range make it broken in my books.
A-tier
- Elena: Elena is one of the best damage dealers in the entire game, but she’s also quite difficult to master. Her entire gameplay relies on Demon Hunting Silver Arrow, which is a terrific ability if you can time it well. After shooting, Elena’s next dodge will fire a Demon Hunting Silver Arrow at the nearest enemy, which deals 100% of the current weapon’s damage. You can further unlock her dash to add to her mobility, which also raises the potential of her ultimate. The gameplay style of shoot, dodge, shoot might sound easy, but it requires a lot of practice.
- Marcus: One of the most fun characters in the game, Marcus, is all about shooting as many bullets as possible. His Fatal Silver Bullet quite literally fires extra bullets that can deal more damage upon a crit hit. There’s an element of RNG with some of his abilities, since you are never sure when they will spawn. That said, you can bypass this limitation by unlocking skills like Bullseye and Spray and Slay once you have levelled him up.
- Jester: Don’t sleep on Jester just because you get him for free at the very beginning of the game. His kit might appear simple, but it’s extremely effective. The core objective is to combine Novice’s Luck and Justice Heart to do deadly combos. With the first, you can dodge the next incoming attack. This can be extremely useful in boss battles if you manage to time it well. Justice Heart increases his fire rate and reload speed by 60% for 8 seconds, which is again great in a boss fight situation. Jester seems like a great counter to some of the endgame bosses that might be difficult to beat.
B-tier
- Lanny: Lanny is not a bad character, but he is not suitable for all. Unlike all other hunters, his specialization is related to coins. In simple words, you have to micromanage how you spend your coins to get the most out of his abilities. If you manage to do so, you will get guaranteed rare spawns from the in-game shop. Moreover, his ultimate buffs his damage, but you will also take more damage from enemies. This is something you will need to learn to balance out as you become an experienced hunter.
As of writing, I have yet to unlock Stella. I will be assessing her pretty soon and sharing my opinions on this tier list.
