Paramount+ film crews take over historic pub in Bristol for TV show

A historic pub in Bristol has been temporarily closed today (March 6) and taken over by film crews for an upcoming mini series for Paramount+. The new thriller The Killing Kind is being filmed in the Highbury Vaults on St Michael's Hill.

The Highbury Vaults confirmed it would remain closed for one day of filming on Monday and reopen at 11am on Tuesday (March 7). The traditional alehouse in Kingsdown dates back to the 19th century and is a popular haunt for students and lecturers.

Inside, the pub has retained its traditional interiors with leather bench seating, wooden fittings and an original snug bar with a jug and bottle. It's also well known by regulars for its hidden walled garden suitable for all weather, equipped with plenty of benches and heaters.

The Killing Kind is the latest title to begin filming at The Bottle Yard Studios and on location in Bristol assisted by the city’s Film Office. The series is part of Paramount+’s strategy to commission 150 international originals by 2025 and will debut in the UK and other international territories where the streaming service is available.

Starring Emma Appleton (Everything I Know About Love) and Colin Morgan (Merlin, The Fall), the story follows Ingrid Lewis, a successful barrister who reconnects with a former accused and potentially dangerous client just as things start to take a dramatic turn. The show is largely filmed in Bristol but the story is believed to be set in London.

The series is produced by Eleventh Hour Films who are also currently filming Alex Rider at Bottleyard Studios and locations around Bristol. Neither production has issued a release date as of yet.
