Following its bombshell acquisition of Warner Bros., Paramount is now looking to combine its robust library of IPs with Skydance’s gaming studios, thus forming a new publishing and development entity—Paramount Games Studio.
This is according to Variety, which wrote that Paramount Skydance was forming a “unified” gaming studio by merging the existing Skydance New Media and Skydance Interactive with Paramount’s IPs, because Paramount reportedly primarily focused on licensing its IPs out to third parties and now strives to make things on its own.
Both Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra and a new Star Wars game, in development at Skydance, will remain intact, though Paramount Games Studio aims to unveil its own first game at tonight’s Summer Games Fest showcase. Uncharted creator Amy Henning will move to become Paramount Games Studio’s new creative director, leaving her previous role as the co-president of Skydance New Media.
Video games will henceforth be a “core pillar” of Paramount Skydance’s content strategy, on par with TV and film.
“We are committed to creating exceptional games for every type of player, from casual to AAA, and building enduring experiences across our beloved Paramount IP and original worlds that deepen fan engagement and drive long-term growth,” the company stated.
As it finalizes the Warner Bros. Discovery purchase, Paramount will gain ownership over immense intellectual properties, including the whole of the DC Universe, Game of Thrones, Terminator, Star Trek, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and many, many other film, comic, television, gaming, and other IPs.
