Bryce will be put on ice.
As expected, the Carolina Panthers have ruled out quarterback Bryce Young for their Week 3 contest against the Seattle Seahawks. The rookie passer, who sustained an ankle injury in Monday night’s loss to the New Orleans Saints, was a non-participant in Wednesday’s walk-through as well as the Thursday and Friday practice sessions.
Buy Panthers TicketsIn his place will be 13th-year veteran Andy Dalton. Dalton, 35, started 14 games for New Orleans last season—completing 66.7 percent of his passes for 2,871 yards, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Head coach Frank Reich expressed confidence about the possibility of having to go to the former three-time Pro Bowler this past Wednesday.
“If Andy’s the starter, we got a lot of confidence,” he told reporters. “This is why you bring someone like Andy in. Our goal is to put our team in position to win championships. And even despite a tough start—that’s still our vision, that’s still our goal, that’s what we’re working towards.
“And my experience personally, as a player and as a coach, is that your’e gonna need somebody for one game or two or three or somewhere along the line. And you’re gonna need to win those games. And if Andy plays, we believe he gives us a very good chance to win.”
In a bit of better news for the Panthers, outside linebackers Brian Burns and Justin Houston were both full participants. Other than Young, Houston is the only player with a game designation (questionable).
