The Carolina Panthers just signed Lamar Jackson! (No, not that one.)
As reported by Augusta Stone of Panthers.com on Tuesday afternoon, the team has added cornerback Lamar Jackson to their practice squad. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound defender spent part of the 2022 season with the Denver Broncos under defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero—who, of course, is now in Carolina.
Buy Panthers TicketsJackson played his college ball at the University of Nebraska between 2016 and 2019. He finished his senior year with a second-team All-Big Ten selection, after totaling a career-high 40 tackles (four for a loss), 1.0 sack, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and three interceptions.
The Elk Grove, Cali. native then broke into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2020. He recorded six starts over 13 games during his rookie campaign, amassing 28 combined tackles and a pair of passes defensed.
After two years in New York, Jackson proceeded to pick up stints with the Chicago Bears and Broncos in addition to a summer stay with the Kansas City Chiefs this year.
With Panthers starting cornerback Jaycee Horn potentially missing some time due to a hamstring injury, Jackson may wind up as some much-needed depth for the secondary.
