Panthers Share Bryce Young Injury News, Addition of New Quarterback

On the heels of a loss that dropped them into last place in the NFC South, the Panthers are now dealing with an ailment at the quarterback position.

Carolina quarterback Bryce Young missed practice Wednesday with an ankle injury, the Panthers announced that same day later in the afternoon.

In addition to updating Young's status, Carolina indicated that it signed quarterback Jake Luton to its practice squad.

Young completed 22 of his 33 pass attempts for 153 yards and a touchdown Monday evening as the Panthers lost 20-17 to the Saints. Carolina coach Frank Reich told reporters the timeline of when Young suffered the injury is unknown.

The Panthers — 0-2 in a division with three other 2-0 teams — are scheduled to visit the Seahawks Sunday afternoon. Reich told reporters Young's status for Sunday remained up in the air.

Veteran Andy Dalton — a three-time Pro Bowler with the Bengals — is Young's backup. Luton started three games for the Jaguars in 2020, throwing two touchdowns against six interceptions.
