The Carolina Panthers can’t sit idly by with the resources they currently have available to them this offseason. So, they didn’t.
On Friday afternoon, the team announced they’ve restructured the contract of offensive tackle Taylor Moton. The move, as reported by Ellis L. Williams of The Charlotte Observer, clears up approximately $11 million in salary cap space.

Prior to the restructure, Carolina had $12.7 million in space—according to Over The Cap. So, with free agency set to begin in under two weeks, it’s safe to say that nearly doubling your available cash is a wise move.
Moton signed his deal—a four-year, $72 million extension—last July. The agreement now has him the fifth-highest paid right tackle in the game on a per year basis—with New Orleans’ Ryan Ramcyzk, Minnesota’s Brian O’Neill, Philadelphia’s Lane Johnson and Indianapolis’ Braden Smith heading the list.
The negotiating window for unrestricted free agents can commence on March 14, two days prior to the start of the new league year.
