Panthers QB Bryce Young: Nothing changes after move up depth chart

Bryce Young may have gone from a No. 2 quarterback to a No. 1 quarterback on Thursday, but that didn’t alter who he is and what he’s working towards.

For the first time this offseason, the Carolina Panthers began practice with their rookie passer taking snaps for their first-team offense. When asked if the move changes his approach, Young said the objective remains as is.

“Not at all,” he replied. “For me, it’s just about attacking every day, trying to do everything I can to get better for the team—us as a team, us a unit, pushing ourselves to accomplish our goals. So, regardless of where that’s at–that’s up to the coaches, that’s out of my hands. I just wanna show up every day and do all I can to help the team, and that’s really been the approach.”

Head coach Frank Reich all but confirmed the switch during his chat with reporters just minutes earlier. This now moves Young ahead of 13-year veteran Andy Dalton, who had led the first-stringers for about three weeks.

Young, who said he had a conversation about the planned jump with Reich and the coaching staff prior to Thursday, added that the growing process—wherever he is on the chart—has also continued for him.

“I think every week has helped,” he stated. “Every week, every practice. There’s ups, there’s downs—and I think that’s all stuff to learn from. There’s good and bad in all these practices, all these reps. Being able to watch it on film, talk to the coaching staff, talk to my teammates and see what they’re expecting from me from the position. Every single day, day in and day out, I feel like there’s been growth.”
