Panthers HC Frank Reich: We’re keeping options open for joint practices

Are the Carolina Panthers looking to get into a New York state of mind this summer? They can if they start the fire.

After wrapping up Saturday’s session of rookie minicamp, head coach Frank Reich was asked if the team was looking into holding joint practices this summer. Here was his response:

“Yeah, if it’s right. If it’s right for both teams,” Reich replied. “You always would like to, but it doesn’t always work out. Some years we’ve had it and it’s been great. Other years, we haven’t had it and it’s been just as good. Sometimes you go two practices, sometimes you might just go one—depending on what the schedules look like. So, keeping all those options open.”

Those options include their first two opponents for preseason play—the New York Jets and the New York Giants. Carolina is opening their 2023 exhibition slate at home against Aaron Rodgers and Gang Green, then will travel to the Meadowlands for Daniel Jones and Big Blue in Week 2.

So if Reich and the Panthers get to sharpen iron on the practice field this summer, they won’t be doing so against any shades of grey.
