When it comes to who suits up for preseason play, the Carolina Panthers are once again in wait-and-see mode.
Head coach Dave Canales spoke with reporters following this morning’s installment of training camp, just one day ahead of their joint practice with the New York Jets. He was asked if Thursday’s session will help determine who takes the field for Saturday’s exhibition contest between the two teams.
“Absolutely,” he replied. “Again, as we get these practices. We have an awesome opportunity tomorrow with the joint practice with the Jets. So as we come out of these practices, the health of the whole group kinda determines who we can play and who we can’t. So we’ll probably, again, just hold off for a couple of days before we make that decision.”
Canales and his staff made the decision to sit 33 guys for their preseason opener against the New England Patriots last Thursday. Save for wideout Jonathan Mingo, none of the players currently listed as starters on the team’s depth chart were active in the 17-3 loss.
Carolina will host New York from Bank of America Stadium at 7:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.
