As fate would have it, Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers were a perfect match at the time of his return in the middle of the 2021 campaign. And now, a handful of months later, that may still be the case.
With almost every other quarterback-needy team figuring out some sort of answer under center this offseason, the Panthers remain empty-handed. Coincidentally, their all-time leading passer is also currently on the outside looking in.
But that situation may change at some point according to team beat writer Sheena Quick. Quick reported on Monday evening that the two sides have remained in touch, keeping the door open for a possible return.
Per sources, the #Panthers have had conversations with Cam Newton regarding a return. I’m told nothing is imminent; will wait to see how the off-season plays out.

During his media availability at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine almost three weeks ago, general manager Scott Fitterer alluded to the organization’s intentions for the free-agent quarterback. Fitterer stated that they’d let Newton know of their plans as the offseason progressed, paving the way for an open channel of communication as the spring rolls on.
2021’s reunion ultimately did not pan out well, as a late-arriving Newton and a hot mess of an offense never fully gelled through his five starts. But, with both parties running thin on options and a new opportunity for Cam to get a fair shake with the coaching staff, perhaps a second reunion would fare a bit better.
