As of mid-morning Wednesday, the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles County has prompted evacuation orders for approximately 37,000 residents in various cities and unincorporated areas. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna reported that a total of 15,000 structures are at risk of burning due to the fire.
Additionally, another 20,000 residents in the same locations are under evacuation warnings, with approximately 6,500 structures facing the threat of the fire. The authorities have issued specific evacuation terminology definitions to guide residents in these situations.
An Evacuation Order signifies an immediate threat to life, requiring individuals to leave the area promptly as it is lawfully closed to public access. On the other hand, an Evacuation Warning indicates a potential threat to life and/or property, advising those who need more time to evacuate, as well as individuals with pets and livestock, to leave the area.
Moreover, in cases where an Shelter In Place order is issued, residents are instructed to go indoors, shut and lock doors and windows, and prepare to self-sustain until further notice or until contacted by emergency personnel for additional guidance.
