A young Paisley man fractured a college student’s eye socket during a brief exchange of words.
Brendan Kristmanns repeatedly punched Jamie Robin’s head when he was having a cigarette break at West College Scotland's Paisley campus on October 21, 2021.
Kristmanns, of Dee Drive in the town, had a brief exchange of words with his fellow student which resulted in him seeing red and punching Robin’s head.
Robin then followed Kristmanns but the 20-year-old attacker responded by throwing another punch.
Procurator fiscal depute Edwin Sheeran told Paisley Sheriff Court that Kristmanns and Robin were both students at the Renfrew Road college at the time of the offence.
Mr Sheeran explained: “Around 2.30pm, Jamie Robin left the college grounds to have a cigarette in the company of a friend.
“Robin and the friend were seen on CCTV to walk back along a path at the same time the accused was leaving the building and walking towards them.
“As the accused approached them, it is clear words are exchanges between parties. Kristmanns then outstretches his left arm and punches the complainer once on the head.
“The accused then walks along the path away from the building, but Robin follows him and says something to him with his arms outstretched. Kristmanns then turns around and punches Robin on the head.”
The court heard that CCTV captures Robin holding his head following the incident and Kristmanns leaves the college grounds.
Mr Sheeran added: “Robin and his friend returned to the college building and reported the incident to college staff.

“A brief investigation found the accused as the perpetrator and he made admissions during a call to a college staff member.
“Police attended at the accused’s home address on October 26, where he was arrested, charged and released on an undertaking.”
Mr Sheeran explained how Robin was taken to Paisley's Royal Alexandra Hospital following the incident and received a CT scan, which showed he had a fractured eye socket and a concussion.
Defence agent Elliott Gemmell told the court Kristmanns has no previous offences on his record and they could be aided by reports. Mr Gemmell reserved further mitigation.
Sheriff Bruce Erroch KC deferred sentence for the preparation of a criminal justice social work report and a restriction of liberty order assessment until March 20. Kristmanns’ bail was continued meantime.
