A twisted bully who made threats to leak intimate pictures of his ex-partner has escaped a prison sentence by the skin of his teeth.
After evidence was lead at a trial at Paisley Sheriff Court, Callum Team admitted that he caused “fear or alarm” between December 21, 2019 and December 22, 2019 at two properties in the town’s New Street.
Team admitted he “repeatedly and excessively telephoned the workplace of his former partner, and did shout, swear, act in an aggressive manner, utter abusive remarks and utter threats of violence to kill.
He also admitted making threats to “disclose intimate images” of his ex.
Sheriff Laura Mundell slammed the callous 30-year-old’s behaviour as “utterly appalling”.
Sheriff Mundell was minded to send the thug to custody but was narrowly persuaded to impose an alternative instead making him subject to a “multi-pronged” community payback order.
Team’s defence agent, Harvie Diamond, told the court his client understood that the custody threshold had been met in this case but asked for an alternative to be imposed given the “positive” views outlined in the background social work report.
Sentencing, Sheriff Mundell said: “You pled guilty at the end of a trial after I had heard evidence in this case. Custody was an option in this case and I was seriously considering a custodial sentence.
“When I came on the bench this morning that was very much at the forefront of my mind. The conduct on this occasion was utterly appalling and I know through your solicitor that you accept the custody threshold has been passed in this case.
“It would have been very easy and very just for me to send you to prison today, sir.
“I have only just, by the narrowest of margins, been persuaded not to do that today and instead I am going to make you subject to a multi-pronged community payback order. This is your one chance.”
Sheriff Mundell placed Team under the supervision of the social work department for two years and made it a conduct requirement that he undertakes alcohol and drug addiction services when directed to do so by his supervising officer.
In addition, Sheriff Mundell ordered Team to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work within the community and ordered he wears a tag for 14 weeks.
The tag prevents Team from leaving his home at St Vincent Terrace in Glasgow between 7pm and 7am each day.
A review hearing was fixed for January 10 with Sheriff Mundell warning Team to make sure he’s started to make progress with the
order.
