Packers WR Allen Lazard misses first practice of Week 1 prep

The Green Bay Packers returned to the practice field on Monday – the first of prep for Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings – without No. 1 wide receiver Allen Lazard.

Lazard was the only player not to practice in some capacity during Monday’s padded work, per Mike Spofford of the team’s official site. He rehabbed off to the side.

It sounds like Lazard is headed towards a questionable labeling for the regular season opener.

“I think Allen is doing better, but we’ll see, as the week progresses, where he’s at,” coach Matt LaFleur said.

Lazard, who caught eight touchdown passes during a career year in 2021, sat out for undisclosed reasons last Wednesday as well.

The Packers don’t have to provide an official injury report until Wednesday, so more on Lazard’s status probably won’t be known for a few days.

Lazard, Randall Cobb and Sammy Watkins are expected to be the starting receivers to open the 2022 season.

Although Lazard’s availability could be in question for Sunday, LaFleur did say the Packers are “hopeful” that rookie Christian Watson will play against the Vikings. Watson and fellow rookie Romeo Doubs could play much bigger roles in the opener if Lazard can’t go.
