The Green Bay Packers have taken a noticeable step backward in 2022, but have a chance to secure their sixth win of the season against the defending Super Bowl champions in Week 15. They have won their last four games against the Los Angeles Rams at Lambeau Field by a margin of 116-59 points.
Though they’ll have their patented home-field advantage in this game playing in front of the Green Bay faithful, the matchup will be anything but a cakewalk. The Rams are exceptionally well-coached under Sean McVay and his exceptional staff of experienced assistants and can put a hurt on any opponent that takes the challenge of playing them lightly.
Los Angeles will be led by former first-overall pick Baker Mayfield under center, who was claimed by the Rams last week before starting his first game for the team in what would turn into one of the most improbable comeback efforts of the season against the Las Vegas Raiders. Mayfield’s struggles at the NFL levels are well-documented, but his natural talent makes him a threat as an improvisational playmaker with the ability to find open receivers downfield with expert precision.
The Packers will also have to contend against the Rams’ exceptional defense, headlined by former defensive player of the year Aaron Donald and a cast of up-and-coming talent that has played some scrappy football this season. Donald can take over any matchup against lesser offensive linemen when he is schemed into favorable matchups, and Aaron Rodgers will need to stay on his toes to avoid letting the defensive lineman take over the game.
All in all, Green Bay has the skills and talent necessary to extend their home winning streak against Los Angeles, but they certainly can’t afford to get complacent in their efforts on Monday. Watch for Matt LaFleur to bring a heady game plan into the matchup to dissect the Rams’ defense, and for Rodgers to make some incredible plays to help lift the Packers to victory.
