Packers CB Jaire Alexander getting MRI on knee following win vs. Jaguars

Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander is getting an MRI on his knee on Monday to assess a potential injury suffered late in the Packers’ 30-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, per Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

Alexander, a two-time All-Pro, appeared to suffer the injury on Evan Engram’s 14-yard touchdown catch with just under two minutes to go. Trailing the play, Alexander thought he had a chance at an interception, but Engram skied in front to make the catch and Alexander immediately hobbled on one leg into the back of the end zone.

The injury came on the final defensive play for the Packers. On the ensuing possession, Malik Willis hit Jayden Reed for a 51-yard completion, setting up Brandon McManus’ game-winning field goal as time expired.

Alexander is Green Bay’s No. 1 corner. He broke up two passes during Sunday’s win in Jacksonville and is currently tied with Xavier McKinney for the team lead in passes defensed (7). A major injury to Alexander would be a significant blow to the Packers’ claim as a contender given the team’s lack of depth at cornerback.

Keisean Nixon, Eric Stokes and Carrington Valentine are the next three on the depth chart. Rookie Javon Bullard has played in the slot.

The Packers could be an injured bunch come Sunday’s showdown with the Detroit Lions. Alexander is hurt, Jordan Love exited with a groin injury and Evan Williams injured his hamstring pre-game and missed most of the win in Jacksonville.

The Packers do have the bye in Week 10, so a much-needed chance to heal is just around the corner.
