Pacific storm strengthens into a hurricane far off the coast of Mexico

Tropical Storm Simon has strengthened into a hurricane in the Pacific, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Thursday.

The storm was hundreds of 235 miles (380 kilometers) south of western Mexico's port city of Manzanillo.
