Outlander season 7 filming officially underway as cast pose for new group photo

Outlander fans were thrilled to bits to discover that filming for season seven has already started.

Fans were absolutely buzzing for the sixth season to air after a very long Droughtlander due to the coronavirus pandemic and the news today reassures that they won't have to ever wait that long again.

Filming was cancelled after season five aired in March 2020, and because of the uncertain circumstances, film crews weren't back to work on the Outlander set in Cumbernauld for over a year.

But after returning to set in 2021, the sixth season aired in March 2022 and is still on our screens weekly.

And now the official Outlander page confirmed that the cast are back on Fraser's Ridge for filming of the new season seven!

Announcing the news, they said: "As we devour Season 6, they're already cooking up #Outlander Season 7!"

And Claire Fraser actress Caitriona Balfe even took to Twitter to share her delight.

She wrote: "Here we go …. Season 7!!!!!! What????? Hard to imagine what we thought might be one season in 2013 is still going and we have all you amazing fans to thank!!!!!"

And fans were truly over the moon and took to the comments to express their delight.

One wrote: "What a lovely pic of my favorite families That makes my little heart very happy #OutlanderForever."

Another wrote: "So beautiful photo. Excited for season 7!"

One added: "Beyond excited!!! Loving every second of witnessing the journey they’re on & the journey they’ll continue in S7! To the ridge, AND BEYOND!"

Whilst one commented: "Thank you great news. Bravo to all for this wonderful series. You are doing an amazing job with a lot of talent."

There are still a few episodes of season six left to air but we can already tell things are going to take a turn at the Ridge as Claire gets sick in the upcoming episodes.

The 30-second trailer of the new episode 'The World Turned Upside Down' shows Claire and Jamie back at home speaking with Roger and Bree when a missing couple known as the McNeills are discovered dead in their home.

When Claire investigates with Malva, Marsali and Lizzie, she falls sick herself, with Jamie commenting: "You look a bit like a ghost, Sassenach."

He can only watch on with dismay as she collapses into his arms.

Poor Jamie is then seen praying by her bedside before a very cunning looking Malva seemingly makes a move.

Outlander resumes on Sunday on STARZ PLAY.
