Outdoor lovers turn out in their droves for sell-out mud trail as popular Lanarkshire event returns

The return of a popular muddy day of fun took place at one of Lanarkshire 's iconic country parks at the weekend.

Hundreds flocked to Hamilton on Sunday, ready to brave the local trenches of Mud Madness at Chatelherault Country Park.

It's the first time the gruelling outdoor obstacle challenge has taken place since 2019, and it was completely sold out on its return on October 9.

Community clubs, teams, friends and families young and old were all eager to bounce straight into the mayhem despite showers of rain drenching the course all weekend - making it one of the muddiest events yet.

More than 800 participants enjoyed waterslides and even a deep dive into the beautiful River Avon, before the 1km mini fun run and 5k mud run sought out the more adventurous and daring of mud lovers.

The event is run by South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture as part of their super race series.

And organisers say the 2022 event has been a huge success.

A South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture spokesman told Lanarkshire Live : "This is the first time we have been able to host our muddy obstacle race since 2019 and it was a complete sell out.

"What a fantastic atmosphere, with community clubs, teams, families and friends all taking part either in our 1k mini mud fun run or a 5k mud run for the more adventurous.

"It was amazing to see our communities and beyond coming together taking part in our family outdoor fitness event, helping those to be the best they can be and live healthier, happier and more connected lives."

Any locals who were not able to attend the 2022 event can now apply for next year's Mud Madness. Bookings are open now.

The 2023 trail takes place on November 1 next year, and more details can be found online.
