Outrage has followed after a "bully" was given what many consider to be a too lenient sentence for knocking a man unconscious and leaving him with "life-changing" injuries and struggling to recognise his own parents. James Guy was handed a suspended sentence for his attack on Kyle Brummell at a Mathew Street bar as well as 200 hours of unpaid work.
This means Guy will not be spending time in prison unless he breaches the terms of the suspended sentence despite the seriousness of the injuries he inflicted. Hundreds have called the sentence a "farce," and said that Guy should've received jail time for his crime.

Guy, who is 37 and from Crewe, should have got "at least five years minimum" and made to pay compensation for Brummell's injuries and suffering, according to one commenter. Shanklyboys said: "[it] doesn't matter if it's [his] first offence first offence or 20th, previous good character or not the crime has been committed, judge it on the facts of the case sentence accordingly"
Others called it "sickening." With one commenting: "This is abhorrent. A guy has to restart his life essentially while the defendant goes free to continue his life."
Gabrielle Earnshaw said "This is not justice," adding how awful for Kyle and his family. I hope you continue to progress in your recovery Kyle."
Family's 'devastating' loss as they mark two years without Duncan Browne
Elsewhere, the family of a man who died after being assaulted on Hanover Street have spoken about the "devastating" loss as they prepare to honour his memory. Duncan Browne, 23, from Kirkby was waiting for a taxi on Hanover Street when he was assaulted, before suffering a cardiac arrest.
Duncan died in hospital the next day. His relative Noel, who taught Duncan to fish, said he "was such a nice person" whose parents are still coming to terms with his loss.
Rapist told child to do what he wanted or Santa wouldn't come
A rapist who subjected two children to young girls to a range of abuse lasting around a year told one of his victims to do what he wanted or "Father Christmas would not appear." Lee Brown, now 21, was 15 when he "groomed and exploited" his eight and 10 year old victims.
One of his victims said in a victim a statement read out to the court: "Sometimes I can’t bear this weight and feel like it is all my fault and I break out in tears as I struggle to cope with it."
Men in high-vis snuck onto Anfield roof to watch Liverpool v Real Madrid
Two men have been warned by a judge they could've been killed after they snuck onto the roof of Anfield for the Liverpool clash with Real Madrid. Kain Hogg and Stuart Parr donned high-vis jackets to sneak in order to gain entry to the ground via a construction site and climbed to the top of the Kenny Dalglish Stand.
