Oscar-nominated actor says he was given supermarket ban after shoplifting accusation

  • Oscar-nominated actor Riz Ahmed, 43, revealed he was banned from a Tesco branch in London shortly after starring in the 2018 Marvel film Venom.
  • Security guards at the Old Kent Road store accused him of shoplifting, citing his large laundry bag and unusual attire, despite him only attempting to buy a frozen pizza.
  • Ahmed recounted that he was banned from the supermarket while simultaneously receiving messages congratulating him on his Venom success.
  • This incident, alongside other experiences where public perception clashed with his reality, inspired his upcoming Prime Video comedy Bait.
  • Ahmed is also set to set to be one of the first hosts of Saturday Night Live UK on 4 April, with Kasabian as the musical guest.
