Orange is the New Black star Laura Prepon says having an abortion 'saved her life'

Laura Prepon has told of how having an abortion "saved her life" after finding out her unborn baby would not survive and could risk her life, too.

Orange is the New Black star Laura, 42, candidly shared her own experience with abortion, after suffering complications in 2018, as she slammed the overruling of Roe vs Wade in the US.

The law was overruled last week, meaning many US states will be allowed to restrict or make abortion illegal on Friday.

Following the news of the overruling, after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Mississippi's ban on abortions after 15 weeks, Laura has opened up about having to terminate her pregnancy.

She explained that while having the abortion in 2018 was the "worst day of her life" she was "grateful to have a choice" which saved her life.

Laura, who shares two children with her husband Ben Foster, shared a photo of herself stood in front of a rainbow on her Instagram and candidly shared with her 9.2 million fans her own experience.

As she posted the photo on Monday, she wrote in the caption: "One of the worst days of my life was when I made the choice to terminate a pregnancy in the second trimester.

"The devastating truth is that we found out the fetus would not survive to full term, and that my life was at risk as well. At the time - I had the choice." [sic]

Laura added: "Everyone has their own story for seeking out this medical procedure and I empathize with anyone who’s been faced with this impossible decision. [sic]

"I am praying for all of us, that we can get through this challenging time and regain agency over our own bodies."

Laura is one of many stars who have spoken out against the change in law in the US, with Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo slamming the decision during their performances at Glastonbury Festival over the weekend.

As 20 year old Billie prepared to sing her track Your Power on her headline performance on the Pyramid stage, she told festival-goers: "Today is a really, really dark day for women in the U.S.

"I’m just going to say that because I can't bear to think about it any longer."

Meanwhile, 19 year old Olivia brought out Lily Allen to sing Lily's track F**k You to the Supreme Court.

As she introduced her special guest to the stage, Olivia said: "I’m devastated and terrified and so many women and girls are going to die because of this.

"And I wanted to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who showed us at the end of the day they truly don’t give a s*** about freedom."

Empire actress Taraji P Henson also spoke out against the ruling as she hosted the BET Awards.

Speaking during her opening monologue the 51-year-old said: "It’s about time we step into our power. It’s about time we talk about the fact that guns have more rights than a woman.

"It’s a sad day in America. A weapon that can take lives has more power than a woman who can give life if she chooses to. It’s about time I got that off my chest."
