Optician saves man's live after spotting incredibly rare cancer during routine eye test

An optician potentially saved a man's life after spotting an extremely rare form of cancer during a routine eye test. Stuart Greeves was seen by Bridgnorth Specsavers optician Teresa Hughes for what he thought was a standard exam.

But Teresa spotted that something wasn't right during the appointment in November 2021. She noticed an abnormal dark patch at the back of his eye, BirminghamLive reports.

"Typically, the retina is orange-red in colour but just off to the side, I could see a very dark grey area," she said. "In order to take a closer look at what was going on, I asked Stuart to come back the next day so I could dilate his pupils and I also suggested we do an Optical Coherence Tomography scan (OCT).
