This week Donald Trump made what looked like a typically left field offer to pave the way to a peace settlement in Ukraine. He offered to buy the strategic minerals that Ukraine has in abundance, in return for continuing US aid funding.
“We’re investing hundreds of billions of dollars” he told reporters in Washington this week. “They have great rare earths, and I want security of rare earths,” adding that Ukraine is “willing to do it.”
