A Kargil War veteran has alleged that a parking attendant at mall in Gurugram attacked him with an iron rod, leaving him with serious head injuries and a fractured hand, as per an ANI report. Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired), who was part of the Indian Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar during the 1999 Kargil War, has accused the police of failing to assist him after the alleged assault.
Gupta had gone to a restaurant at Magnum Global Park for a family dinner on Thursday night, reports ANI. Around 8 pm, after dropping off his family, he went to find a parking space.
According to his complaint, parking staff directed him between the valet area, basement and multilevel parking before eventually refusing to park his vehicle. At one point, when Gupta tried to reverse his car, a parking attendant allegedly struck the windshield in an attempt to break it.
"When I got out of the car and resisted, the attendant then came with an iron rod. He first struck me on the hand and then on the head. I was covered in blood from the attack. Security guards and parking staff were present at the scene, but no one helped me. I even called the police helpline, but they didn't arrive at the scene for about half an hour. Meanwhile, a chef from the restaurant intervened, saving my life", Gupta said in his complaint, as reported by PTI.
The attendant also allegedly threatened to kill him, Gupta told TOI.
Gupta was taken to Hospital by ambulance with injuries to his head and elbow. He later underwent surgery to fuse the injured elbow bone using plates.
According to a PTI report, Gupta has alleged that the medico-legal case (MLC) report prepared at the hospital is false and does not mention the bleeding from his head or the elbow injury following the incident on Thursday. He claimed to be receiving no assistance from the police either.
What is Operation Safed Sagar?
Operation Safed Sagar was the Indian Air Force’s high-altitude air operation during the 1999 Kargil conflict. The operation was aimed at helping evict Pakistani infiltrators from Indian positions in the Kargil sector.
A Netflix series released in August also paid tribute to the air operation.
